Attend a FREE College Goal Washington event to get expert help filing your FAFSA.

College Goal Washington is all about helping you file your FAFSA and better understand the steps you need to take to get cash for college. At this event, you will receive one-on-one support from trained volunteers and financial aid questions. To take full advantage of the events, come prepared with your questions about FAFSA and financial aid as well as your important information.
LIST OF WHAT TO BRING:
- Your Social Security card/number or Alien registration card (you will not be able to start the FAFSA process without one of these)
- Your driver’s license or state-issued identification card
- Your income information (bank statements; a W-2 or pay stub, if you have a job; past tax return, if you filed)
- Your parent, if you are under the age of 24
- Your parent’s financial information (bank statements; W-2 or pay stub; last year’s tax return)
- Your parent’s social security number, if they have one. If they don't its okay.
- Any additional financial information (such as child support statements, TANF or welfare information; real estate, stock or bonds investments; family business or farm info)

West Seattle High School
Coaches vs. Cancer
The West Seattle High School Boys and Girls Basketball teams are participating in the nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches by hosting a Coaches vs. Cancer Night.
The Boys Team on Tuesday January 21st, and the Girls Team on Wednesday January 22nd will be asking each of you to join us to fight cancer.
To help them win the fight against cancer, please make a donation in the bucket at the concession stand during the basketball game OR text Coach to 20222.
You can also visit the website coachesvscancer.org/youth and search for West Seattle High School to make a donation. Each donation will be given a support banner which we will post in the High School lobby.

Open House For Parents of Incoming 9th Graders
Parent Information tours for incoming 9th grade students will be held on Wednesday, January 22nd from 8am - 9:30am. All tours will begin in the Theater. Students must be accompanied by an adult.
SAT Class for Juniors
Juniors interested in taking an SAT Prep class should see Ms. Filippelli in Room 109 to sign up starting Monday, January 13th. The class will be held on February 4th, 11th and 25th and students must attend all three sessions. The cost will be $75 or $35 if you are on free and reduced lunch.
Early Registration is now open for the West Seattle 5K
Looking for a great way to keep that New Year’s fitness resolution and help West Seattle High School? Register for the 2014 West Seattle 5K Run/Walk! This years’ race will take place Sunday, May 18th at Alki Beach. Take advantage of early discount registration fees! - Thursday, Feb. 6th – Our annual Post High School Planning Event. Open to all students but primarily aimed at preparing 10th and 11th grade students for life after high school. We will have a variety of workshops/topics. More information to follow.
Many Juniors take the ACT or SAT now as well as early Fall to be able to get an idea of where they can improve before they submit their final test scores to colleges. Steps At Stevens - Volunteer Opportunities
Steps at Stevens will create safe pedestrian routes and wayfaring to our school entrance. Students and parents are invited to attend upcoming steering committee meetings to learn more:

- Monday, Feb 3, 2:30 - 3:30pm, West Seattle PCC Natural Market
All attendees' time contributes to the grant's Volunteer Match.

Review panel - Hire landscape architect; requires strong commitment to the review qualifications and to the City and SPS hiring process, 4-5 weeks. (2-4 positions)

After School Study Help (MASH)
West Seattle High School is offering homework support and tutoring! MASH is open to the entire population of WSHS every Tuesday & Thursday in the School Library from 2:30 – 4:00. The staff is prepared to work on any subject for ALL students looking to improve their grades or pass their classes or just get help with current workload. Teachers are encouraged to assign students that are struggling to pass, and parents are also encouraged to send their students for assistance. We offer help in all areas of study, whether it’s for catching up, keeping up, or getting ahead.

The PTSA has purchased a program to prepare Students for end of course exams Links to Learning and has practice tests accessible from any computer.
Just For Seniors
College Financial Aid Information Night for Seniors and Families
Seattle Public Schools would like to invite all seniors to attend one of the many College Goal Washington Financial Aid Nights happening in January. Financial aid experts and trained volunteers will be on hand at each event to walk students through the FAFSA process. The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is an essential first step in accessing college financial aid. It is required for most scholarships, grants and loans. College Bound Scholarship seniors must file the FAFSA to receive their scholarship. The priority filing date for College Bound is February 1st.

Tuition Only Scholarship Offered by WSHS Alumni Assoc.
“Tuition Only” Scholarship applications are available for the graduating class of 2014 from the WSHS Alumni Association.
Applications can be picked up in the School Library, Room 129 or by printing the form from the WSHS Alumni Association website at www.wshsalumniassociation.org.
All completed applications must be postmarked no later than April 11, 2014.
